Developing Young Minds Through the Power of Spelling

Established in 2015, the Kenya National Spelling Bee (KNSB) is a registered educational organization, authorized by the Ministry of Education, that promotes literacy development, inculcates a reading culture, vocabulary building and communication skills among learners across Kenya. The National chapter of the Spelling Bee Championship launched in 2016 after a successful pilot phase in Nairobi, highlighted the need for a National Spelling Bee programme that provided learners with a platform to develop; confidence, public speaking skills and a deeper understanding of the English language.

KNSB, a founding member of the African Spelling Bee Consortium, is Kenya’s largest English Language Spelling Championship. The organization works with likeminded education stakeholders and partners to provide learners with opportunities to participate in spelling competitions locally, nationally and internationally.

The Kenya National Spelling Bee is part of the Ramco Group of Companies portfolio and works closely with Sai Office Supplies Ltd, the Group’s office supplies and stationery business. Sai Office has supported the programme through its stationery brands and partnership initiatives, including Veda, reflecting the Group’s broader commitment to education, literacy and youth development. Through KNSB, Sai Office has been able to engage thousands of learners, teachers and parents by rewarding each participant with gift hampers and, hands on fun art & craft activities.

Through its Subcounty, County, National and African Spelling Bee Championship levels, KNSB continues to create opportunities for learners to build language skills, self-confidence, discipline and a strong culture of reading while representing Kenya on the local, national and international platforms.
